What is Mugwort?

I’ve seen this mask a couple of times and the name reminded of those screeching plants in the Harry Potter books/movies. What on earth is Mugwort? Mugwort is a member of the daisy family which grows in North America, Asia and Northern Europe. The root of the plant is used to make medicine. Fresh, crushed Mugwort leaves applied to the skin relieves burning, itching and pain. It is said that chewing fresh Mugwort leaves will help relieve fatigue and clear the mind. Mugworts are called ‘tea tree’ in Korea for its soothing and cleansing effect.

Mugwort is also very rich in vitamin E which is good for your skin. It helps prevent signs of ageing, keeps your skin calm and hydrated and it can help reduce the appearance of scars.

Korean Mugwort is known for its unique scent and antioxidants, full of vitamins and minerals to restore youth and energy as well as for its amazing calming and detoxifying effects, making it excellent for skin care. The I’M FROM Mugwort Mask is designed with a unique gel network with a high concentration of only the top quality Mugwort from Ganghwa, Korea.

People who are allergic to daisies, chrysanthemums, marigolds, ragweed, and other herbs from the Asteraceae/Compositae plant family should stay away from this mask because they can be allergic to Mugwort too. What is my skin type?
Combination on the T-zone, dry and dehydrated/rough on the C-zone of my face. I also have a lot of redness and my skin is very sensitive and prone to breaking out when not cleansed properly.

This literally the face I made while reading the ingredient list on the packaging of the mask. The mask contains so many good ingredients! I’ve grabbed a few amazing ingredients to tell you a little bit more about:

Centella Asiatica: If you have very dry, dehydrated or sensitive skin like I have Centella Asiatica is the one ingredient to always look out for in products. Centella Asiatica has healing and soothing properties. It’s amazing to find this in a face mask!
Licorice: Licorice root may be effective in improving the look of an uneven skin tone. One of its components, known as glabridin, is a potent antioxidant and skin-soothing ingredient, which is why licorice often shows up in products meant for sensitive and reddened skin.
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract: Green tea extract can actually decrease wrinkles. Green tea extract is also a good anti-inflammatory agent thereby reducing inflammation in the skin.
Cordyceps Sinensis Extract: Cordyceps is a type of fungus that is found living on certain types of caterpillars. Now, don’t go all eek! Think mushroom, think yeast that give us those oh-so-soft breads! Many of the Cordyceps chemical constituents have known health promoting benefits. These include nucleosides, sterides, polysaccharides, proteins, essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

Zooming into the product:

Application: After (double) cleansing your skin, apply a thick layer of the I’m From Mugwort mask evenly onto your face avoiding your eye area. Leave it soak into your skin for 5 to 10 minutes (I like to leave it on for at least 30 minutes) and rinse gently with water.

Scent wiseNearly every review I’ve read so far said this mask smells like herbs. I agree on that. It has a very medicinal-but-in-a-good-way scent to me. You know, the coughing syrup that actually smells and tastes nice? That one. I’m From states that the scent is supposed to be calming in a way as well and I totally agree on that point. When rinsing the face mask off it feels like rinsing the day away and you feel brand new.

Packaging: This mask comes in a square box with a spatula. The jar contains 110 grams of product. The looks very natural and yet very fancy.

Texture: The texture of this mask feels so amazing on my face. I think you can compare it to jam with little bits of fruit and strawberry seeds in it. The green beads in the Mugwort Mask are ground Mugwort particles and may be different in sizes and shapes. I like rinsing this off by moving my hands in circular motion to get a bit of exfoliating going on.

Where does it go in the skincare routine: A face mask goes after double cleansing your skin (first with an oil based cleanser and secondly a water based cleanser). You can use a scrub or a peeling gel after that to make sure the mask really penetrates your skin even deeper without having to get through a layer of dead skin cells.

For who: I think this mask is for everyone. This mask is really hydrating for dry and dehydrated skin types and very soothing for sensitive skin types. I cannot see why people with combination or oily skin can’t use it since it contains so many great ingredients. It calms your skin down straight away and I can imagine this being a godsend to people with acne.

People who are allergic to daisies, chrysanthemums, marigolds, ragweed, and other herbs from the Asteraceae/Compositae plant family should stay away from this mask because they can be allergic to Mugwort too.
